WHAT IS IASAS CULTURAL CONVENTION?
Below is an explanation for those who might not completely understand the workings of this part of the IASAS Program.
The IASAS Cultural Convention is held over 3 days. There are three parts to this event, each of which is held at a different IASAS School:
- IASAS Music- (8 strings players, 8 band members and 8 choir singers accompanied by 3 pianists playing solos as well as performing in octets)
- IASAS Debate and Forensics- (17 students competing in the areas of Debate, Impromptu speaking, Oral interpretation, Original Oratory, and Extemporaneous speaking)
- IASAS Art/ Dance/ Drama- (8 dancers presenting a 20 minute piece, 8 actors presenting a 45 minute play and 5 artists accompanying 25 pieces of Art add to an exhibition)
Being part of a Cultural Convention group is essentially the cultural equivalent of making a varsity sports team. All students who are involved have completed some form of audition or selection process. The students of our cultural ‘teams’ are called delegates and represent ISM against other IASAS schools.

IASAS MUN and Cultural Conventions have in the past been the responsibility of the ATAC Department. In school year ’11-12, Ms Vicki Close, the ISM Fine and Performing Arts Director, took over the responsibility of coordinating the IASAS Cultural events/MUN. From school year 2012-13 Mr. Neil Woods/Ms Marsha Hillman assumed coordinating responsibilities for both the MUN/IASAS Cultural Convention program.
The ISM Fine Arts office and ATAC office will work closely together to ensure all aspects of these programs continue to offer the best possible experience for ISM student delegates in our MUN and Cultural Convention programs.
IASAS MUN is held each November with all IASAS schools participating along with 9 other invited schools, “friends of IASAS’, for this event. The conference is very much student driven and student run with the schools MUN advisers providing technical and logistical support to make the convention a success. For school year 18-19 IASAS MUN will be held at ISM
ISM also participates in the annual THIMUN Singapore conference each November.
