ATAC Announcements Week 23 Feb 4-8, 2013

IASAS Golf makes its debut this year at ISKL. If you want to be a part of history and represent ISM in the first ever IASAS Golf Tournament, contact Mr. Hamaguchi to register your name.

Congratulations to all our Bearcats (players and coaches) for your hard work and dedication at the 2nd season IASAS events. A great effort from all teams and a special congratulations to our medal winning tennis, touch and basketball teams. Well done to all of you! Please remember we will celebrate the efforts of all our 2nd season teams Tuesday Feb 19th at the sports awards. Lofthouse 5;30pm is the date and time athletes and parents please mark your calendars.

A big THANK-YOU to ISM families that agreed to host IASAS Tennis athletes. It was an incredible tourament widely regarded by all coaches and players as the best IASAS Tennis event ever. We had crowds of 700 people watching and supporting the players. Host families play a huge role and events like this cannot happen without your support. Many thanks for opening your home and supporting ISM to host this event. If you are able and willing we host Track and Field in 9 weeks time please sign up again…see below for details.

IASAS Track and Field April 10-14.  Housing letters for the IASAS Track and Field event are now available via the ATAC blog please sign up early to house a visiting track athlete in April. Our MS boys B and girls tennis teams have made it to the ISTA league semi finals to be played on Feb 16.

The MS Gold girls and boys basketball teams played in the finals of the local league this past Saturday at ISM MS gym. Unfortunatelty both teams lost their finals but they have had a great season and are very deserving of the Runners-up trophies. Well done players and coaches.

HS Student registration for ATAC activities: (new for school year ’12-13) A Google doc registration is now available for all HS students who will take part in any ATAC seasonal sports teams, MUN and Cultural Convention programs. Please take the time to complete this online registration for activities that you plan on joining this school year. Please access the form via the HS Student Registration tab found under the Helpful Shortcuts bar on the ATAC blog home page. *please note this is for HS students only and you must use your school email address to access the link. Personal gmail or hotmail addresses will not allow you to access the page.

I am pleased to say that all slots are now confirmed.  Letters have been distributed to your children via the divisional offices. IASAS Tennis matches start Thursday Jan 31st, the schedule is very busy with 204 matches to be played over the 3 days. To help you understand the schedule a match consists of 3 singles games S1, S2, S3 and 2 doubles games D1 and D2.There is also an 8th or alternate player for each team who play matches as a part of the tournament. The alternate player can be used in case of injury/illness in singles or doubles if needed. To win the match you need to win 3 out of the 5 games. It is a round robin format with all teams playing each other by Saturday lunch time and then Saturday afternoon the finals are played based on the round robin results.

All 8 courts on our new roof facility plus our 2 courts at the covered court will be utilized for the tournament so there will be plenty of great tennis matches to watch during the 3 days. For those of you that are unaware or are new to ISM both our ISM boys and girls teams are defending IASAS champions and our girls team is going for a 3rd win in a row this year. The event will be live streamed via www.iasas.asia and IASAS tournaments are wonderful events to host and we look forward to putting on a great event for the visiting teams in our new facility. We hope for great support from our ISM community during the event to cheer on our teams as they do battle against the IASAS schools.

Whilst we are hosting tennis our other 2nd season teams will be battling it out at the following venues for their season ending IASAS Championships and we wish them the best of luck. You can follow their progress via live score and streaming sites at www.iasas.asia

Our girls basketball team have now qualified for the ISSA league semi finals, whicj will be played tomorrow Tues Jan 29 at 4:30pm at MS Gym. Well done JV and MS boys Rugby teams who took out the local league finals on Saturday. The Bearcats Rugby boys made it a triple sweep this season winning all 3 divisions of local school boy rugby. Congratulations players and coaches.

The Faith Academy Hardeman Cup Basketball tournament gave our IASAS teams solid final preparation for this week in Singapore. The Varsity boys lost in OT in the bronze medal game and our girls won the 3rd place trophy with freshman Tori and Chiara being recognised for the all tournament team.

Congratulations also to our JV and Varsity girls touch teams who also won the ISM Touch Invitiational played on Saturday. Both teams played very well to take out the 1st place trophy, we wish our girls touch players the best as they head for Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.

Our girls basketball team with another win over Faith last Saturday morning have now qualified for the ISSA league semi finals, details of date/time for this match are still to be decided. Well done also to the Varsity boys Rugby team who took out the local league final on Saturday with a thumping 55-5 win over Faith. They then played a tune up game vs local league team the Vipers and had another big win 64-15.

This coming week ISM will host some of the Faith Academy Hardeman Cup games on Thursday and Friday after school. Varsity girls will play at 4pm Thurs and Fri, JV boys will play at 4pm both days and the Varsity boys will play at 5:30pm. Tournament games will continue at Faith all day Saturday. This will be the final chance to support our varsity basketball teams at home before they go to IASAS so come out Thurs/Fri to cheer them on!

A big thanks to our swim coaches , sailfish parents and student volunteers who hosted a great varsity meet this past Saturday. British School and American School in Japan competed against our team in preparation for IASAS. Some new school records were broken with new Grade 6 girl Olivia Morris breaking three school records at her first swim for the school congratulations Olivia. Kaizer Soh also broke school records, he is on fire at the moment and took an amazing 9 seconds of the 800m freestyle record!

Our girls basketball team had a fantastic win out at Faith Academy last Friday night, the first time our girls have beaten Faith both times in a season and our first win at Faith in many years. Congratulations girls  and Coach Juteau and McQueen great job!
